The 1995/96 season was the 99th season of Scottish league football.
Being in a lower division did not bring about any improvement in Ayr’s, or Simon Stainrod’s, performance. New owner Bill Barr did not take long to assess the clubs position and a disasterous start to the season brought Ayr again to the verge of relegation.
The pressure eventually told and he announced his resignation on 2nd September and as he did so he said that the Ayr players should be done for fraud and that the Ayr supporters were ‘moaners’
New manager Gordon Dalziel managed to rally the team to important wins to finish a very slender five points above the relegation trap door by virtue of good wins against relegation candidates Forfar Athletic and Montrose.
Was an era of prosperity and success on the way?
