On 29th April 1989 St Johnstone played their last match at their long-term home of Muirton Park moving to the new purpose-built McDiarmid Park on the outskirts of the city, the first purpose-built all-seater stadium built in the United Kingdom.
It may have been historic for St Johnstone but importantly for Ayr it was a good away win in which John Sludden helped himself to the only goal of the match.
However, due to its historical significance (not because of a good Ayr win), there was a a Post Office postmark created creating an industry in First Day Covers being issued across Perth in particular, but available elsewhere.
There were different forms for this Firts Day Cover.
