James Duffy became manager in September 2021 having joined Ayr United as assistant to David Hopkin. He then became caretaker manager in September 2021 when Hopkin resigned after just six months.

The former Scotland midfielder's last game in charge was the 2-0 home defeat by Raith Rovers, which left Ayr United side ninth in the second tier.
