It was almost inevitable with the financial crisis still affecting the club that relegation would be the seasons final outcome for Ayr .
In September 2003, Donald Cameron, the clubs’ vice-chairman, purchased the remaining Barr Holdings shares in the club to become its’ new owner.
A series of early draws and a few defeats put United at a disadvantage by Christmas. Some good wins gave hope in February and March but the damage had already been done.
Nevertheless results late in the season nearly pulled off a remarkable escape.
Two draws in the last few games made the difference and put the final nail in the coffin.
Not one for making excuses Campbell Money took the flack from the supporters. Despite this relegation Campbell Money was given a new two year contract to the bemusement of most fans.
