The 1989/90 season was the 93rd season of Scottish league football.
A 10th position finish, avoiding relegation was Ayr’s reward for a mediocre season spattered with some high scoring defeats away from home, such as a 6-0 defeat at Airdrie in February and 5-2 away to Raith Rovers in March.
The Ayrshire Cup was lost to Kilmarnock after extra time and after a 7-0 win over Girvan in the semi-final.
