After a successful promotion campaign the previous season, Ally McLeod steered United to 1st Division security albeit by only a point from local rivals Kilmarnock who were relegated.
Highlight of the season was a 1-0 win for the Honest Men at St Johnstone’s Muirton Park, the last match ever to be held at that venue heralding St Johnstone’s move to the Mc Diarmid Stadium the following season
