The 1983/84 season was the 87th season of Scottish league football.
Once again George Caldwell presided over a dismal season and once again Ayr United avoided relegation by a single point. Once again there was no Cup run to distract from the dismal league performances.
A 3-0 win on the last day of the season away to already promoted Dumbarton sealed Ayr’s survival, when the Somerset Park faithful were already planning visits to 2nd division venues for the following season.
Only a 10-0 Ayrshire Cup win against Girvan brought cheer to the few who turned up.
