Manager Jacky Cox saw his side relegated after a disappointing season finishing bottom in 18th position. 

Despite this United managed to record a home win against Rangers.  Apart from that the season was a trail of draws and some bad defeats.

A 7-3 defeat for Ayr at Ibrox on the last game of the season ensured that Rangers won the championship over Kilmarnock.
