The 1948/49 season was the 76th season of competitive football in Scotland and the 52nd season of the Scottish Football League. Rangers became the first team to win the Scottish domestic treble.
Scottish League Division "C" was split into two regional sections. It would be 26 years before a set-up with three national divisions would be in place again.
Manager Bob Ferrier was able only to secure a mid-table finish in ‘B’ division being slightly embarrassed again by high scoring defeats such as an 8-0 loss to Dundee United and a 9-2 reverse against Cowdenbeath late in the season.
There was a late Highland tour for the Honest men and a final friendly against Olgham Athletic.
