The 1947/48 season was the 75th season of competitive football in Scotland and the 51st season of the Scottish Football League
Once again Ayr failed to deliver anything other than a mediochre season based on very mediochre performances.
A 10th place was marginally better than before but United were still leaking goals.
However on the positive side there were some good wins such as a 6-2 win over Dunfermline Athletic in November and a 6-0 win over Stenhousemuir in February.
There was some revenge buy knocking Dunfermline Athletic out of the Scottish Supplemnetary Cup eventually secumbing to Albion Rovers and Morton ended Scottish Cup hopes.
