The 1946/47 season was the 74th season of competitive football in Scotland and the 50th season of the Scottish Football League.
Ayr finished in eleventh position, only two points above bottom place in what was a high scoring season. there was an early Supplementary Cup defeat by 4-0 to Dunfermline and a 5-4 league cup defeat against Albion Rovers. However it was a leaky defence that saw as many as 5, 6 and 7 goals being conceded with little reply.
Later in the season Ayr managed a 5-0 win over non-league Peterhead, but suffered an 8-0 rebuff in the next round against Aberdeen.
There was a little light relief for Ayr in a friendly match against some Polish prisoners of war still in the area but even their prowess was sufficient to beat Ayr by 2-1.
