The 1936/37 season was the 64th season of competitive football in Scotland and the 47th season of theĀ Scottish Football League.
Ayr United bounced back from the previous season’s disappointment with an emphatic 2nd division championship winning performance with the help of another of Ayr’s goalscoring legends - Terry McGibbon.
Under manager Frank Thompson Ayr scored effortlessly and high scoring matches were common such as Ayr’s 8-1 win over Brechin City in October, an 8-3 win over Stenhousemuir in November and a 7-2 win over East Stirlingshire in January.
September saw a superb 6-1 win over Forfar Athletic, which was bettered with an 8-1 win over Brechin City on 31st October. Further high scoring wins were recorded including two further scores of 8.
Promotion was clinched with a 5-0 win at home to King's Park (Stirling ) on 27th March.
